As you are aware it has been a very busy time for the club. We kicked off the year with the Wallace Development Hastings Open which rolled into the New Zealand Men’s Seniors (won by our own Mike Trass!) and now the Wallace Development NZPGA Championship is upon us!
We would like to thank you all for being so flexible and allow Ben and his team to present the course to the best possible standard during these events.
This is the first email from Golf Operations which you will receive quarterly after a golf committee meeting to provide updates on outcomes from these meetings. Obviously, feel free to reach out to your golf committee with any queries or concerns at any time.
Women’s Club Captain Report.
The women will be running a shootout. Entries close end of April. Signup is in the women’s locker room.
Club champ handicap divisions will be adjusted to be more in line with a fairer representation of our members handicaps.
Men’s Club Captain Report
There was discussion regarding needing a course marshall on busy days. It was decided to canvas members to ask for volunteers. If anyone is out there and would like to assist, please get in touch with Tim Southward.
There will be some discussion going forward about the format of the Hastings Open. This year was very well received. Some discussion on the Blue Tee and Yellow Tee divisions being 54 holes.
Men’s pennants is a challenge. For such a large club we struggle to field full teams. (Subsequent to this meeting an email has gone out asking for more pennant players and feedback on why people do not play pennants).
Currently there is no sponsor for the Men’s Shootout so in 2024 there will not be one. If there is someone who would like to discuss sponsorship opportunities surrounding the shootout, please get in touch with Brett otherwise we will look to have one sorted for 2025.
General Business
Planning is underway by Brett and his team along with Annabelle for the Hastings Ladies Classic in November. Save the Date will be going out to past participants soon.
Summer tee times across the busy Christmas period (after mixed closing until the 3rd week of January normally) will see a tee sheet start at 6:30am. The pro shop will continue to open at 7:00am 7 days a week.
A reminder to members that playing in 5s is strictly prohibited. At no time should there be a 5-some on the course. Please show respect and courtesy to other members and adhere to this request.
Ben and the pro shop team talk almost daily in regard to course setup. It is the goal of the entire team here at Hastings Golf Club to have Play the Lie in effect as often as possible. This course is one of the best presented in the country, so we are lucky to be able to do this. If you play elsewhere, you often come back realising how lucky we are!
If you ever would like to discuss anything regarding golf and golf operations Brett and AJ have an open-door policy and are always happy to discuss and explain happenings at the course.
Once again, thank you to all the members for their patience through this busy time. You should be very proud of your course and of being a member here at Hastings Golf Club.
Thanks,
Brett and AJ
