Snippets from the Golf Committee Meeting held 31 July 2024
Tim Southward acknowledged the passing of Life Member, Jim Newbigin, and spoke of his valued contribution to the Club. A minute of silence was observed.
There has been good feedback about the cutting and pruning of trees and tidy up.
Ben and his greens staff have endured a challenging year with three major tournaments, fairway disease issues, tree work and tidy up and the installation of irrigation/sprinkler heads. They continue to do an excellent job which is very much appreciated.
The new local rule regarding relief from sprinkler heads has been implemented, has been added to the Local Rules whiteboard, and is appreciated.
Men v Women is scheduled for Tuesday, 3 September and Annabelle updated regarding the raffle prizes received from Suzelle Lingerie and Thomson Suits.
Build a Bun for lunch to be promoted via Membership Matters and noticeboard.
Vicki was congratulated on the great job she has done as organiser for the 9 hole women from 12 original members to over 100 now and the new 9 hole women’s tournament was discussed. It has good support already and will be opened to 9 hole players from other Clubs shortly.
Tim has marshalled on several occasions recently when there has been a full Saturday field. It is also a good opportunity to touch base with members and does help remind players about being conscious of their position in the field.
Slow play on Sundays is an ongoing issue – Vicki will keep an eye on the size of the Sunday fields and will marshall as needed.
Need regular reminders to members to take names out when the spaces aren’t being used in respect of other members’ rights to be able to play.
Current criteria for granting extensions to play by dates for matches was discussed.
It was moved that ‘Illness requiring hospitalisation’ be amended to read:
“illness requiring hospitalisation or illness with a doctor’s certificate will be granted an extension of up to a maximum of two weeks from the deadline date of play” (otherwise the match will be defaulted).
